4-year-old boy shoots his mother in the back

Police want to charge a mother of a 4-year-old boy who shot her while they were driving in a pickup truck on a misdemeanor charge, they said Tuesday.
According to Putnam County Sheriff's Capt. Gator DeLoach,  the Mum, Jamie Gilt, put a loaded handgun underneath the front seat of her truck and at some point, the gun slid into the back where her son was sitting in a booster seat.

The son unbuckled himself, got out of his seat, picked up the gun .45-caliber handgun that was on the floor of her pickup truck.and fired it through the front seat, hitting his mother in the back. Some how, she managed to call 911 and was taken to the hospital.

Gilt was apparently a gun lover who made numerous social media postings about gun rights and boasted about how she had taught her son how to shoot.

Police say they are recommending a charge of allowing a child access to a firearm. He says it will be up to prosecutors to decide whether to file the charge or not because she has not been arrested.
