The Senate on Tuesday, March 15 directed the Senate committee on appropriation to allocate ten billion naira under service wide votes for relocation and resettlement of the internally displaced persons returnees in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
In a five prayer motion titled Interim financial and maternal support to IDPs returnees in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, the Senate urged the federal government to release grains from the strategic grain reserve to the affected states.

The Senate also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the refugees commission to make special arrangement for repatriation and resettlement of Nigeria refugees in Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
Also, it directed the appropriate committees to write a letter of appreciation to the embassies of the host countries where the refugees are accommodated.
It also urged the victim support fund to allocate reasonable amount from the fund for immediate relocation and resettlement for the IDPs pending the short and medium term plans, they might have.
While making contributions, Bukola Saraki the Senate President commended the Ali Ndume, the Senate leader for sponsoring the motion.
“Two things we should recognise is that we must commend the efforts of the security agents.
“We must also do something urgently to give support to all idp centers,” he said.

However, he urged the committee must bring their report as soon as possible so it can pass into law.
In a similar vein, Senator Abdul-Aziz Murtala Nyako, Chairman Senate Committee on Special Duties on Monday, March 14 called on the federal government to pay adequate attention to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Nigeria.
While speaking with newsmen at the National Assembly, he said it was important that Nigeria be extremely concerned about what happened at the camps and also explained that he wanted the Refugees Commission and NEMA to cater to the IDPs.
