– A woman has defrauded a group of unsuspecting applicants over job procurement
– She obtained N3.8million through false pretense from the applicants
A woman named Faith Opara has been convicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday 14, for obtaining N3.8million through false pretense.
Opara was convicted by Justice M.L Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state after she pleaded guilty. The Justice reserved sentencing her till March 17.

The convict had defrauded the complainant when she brought up the idea that there was an ongoing Federal Government Empowerment Programme from the office of the former first lady, Patience Jonathan. This programme said to have been under the umbrella of Centre for Global Peace Integrity and Development, a Non-Governmental Organization, belonging to the accused.
The unsuspecting applicants had paid a sum of N100,000 each, which gave a sum of N3.8million in total with the hope of going to South Africa.

Various exhibits were tendered before the court by the prosecuting counsel, H.O. Anaso before the conviction. The exhibits were admitted and marked as such there and then.
J.C. Odo of the defense counsel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy since her client had shown enough remorse to the state and commission.
Recently, EFCC docked 6 officials of ABU hospital for N185m fraud. The anti-graft agency arraigned six officials of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria for N185 million fraud. The accused persons were arraigned on a 22-count charge bordering on conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, theft, cheating, misappropriation and fraudulent diversion of bank loan before Justice M. M. Ladan of Kaduna state High Court sitting in Zaria.
