“I am not well. I am sick. I am sick,” Afolabi kept repeating.
Akanni Afolabi, a member of the Ekiti state House of Assembly, has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
However, the lawmaker who spent 18 days in detention was very weak and could barely speak. Therefore, he was immediately admitted in a private hospital in Abuja for medical treatment.
According to Vanguard, the lawmaker was receiving intravenous fluid therapy in the private hospital.
Speaking from the hospital bed, Afolabi kept repeating: “I am not well. I am sick. I am sick.”
He disclosed that he was treated for malaria at the DSS detention facility after he had collapsed two times.

Afolaki alleged that his release might be connected with his deteriorating health condition, adding that he was not told by the DSS operatives why he had been arrested and held in detention.
Reacting to Afolaki’s release, Gboyega Aribisogan, the chairman of the Ekiti Assembly committee on information, expressed happiness and noted that the entire state was agog with jubilation.

“His incarceration really bothered us. I can confirm that every other person detained with him has also been released.
“Immediately he was released, Governor Ayodele Fayose ordered that he be taken into a hospital, which is where he is now,” he said.
It would be recalled that Afolaki was detained on March 4 when DSS operatives stormed the state House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti.
He was immediately taken to Abuja where he had since been imprisoned in spite of the ruling of the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti, directing the DSS to either release him or produce him in court on March 16.
