According to him: ”This opening will enable the institution carry out its statutory security responsibilities and duties.”
But the Senator cautioned the PSC over the way and manner the exercise is conducted saying: ”The Police Service Commission must ensure the exercise is carried out transparently and must balance the fundamental requirement of merit and equitable representation of all states of the federation.”
Reassuring citizens in his district of adequate representation as far as the exercise is concerned, Sani said: ”I wish to fully assure the people of my district that I will “put eye and ear” on the exercise from beginning to the end so as to ensure that applicants interest are well protected.”
President Muhammad Buhari had, in August last year, announced the government’s plan to recruit additional 10,000 police officers.
The chairman of PSC and former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chief Mike Okiro had stated earlier this year, that the selection of the most suitably qualified candidates for recruitment into the various ranks and cadres of the NPF would be completed by June 30, 2016.
Given a breakdown of the exercise, Okiro explained that the exercise intends to recruit 7,500 personnel as police constables, 500 as cadet inspectors, 500 as cadet assistant superintendent of police and 1,500 other various ranks under professionals cadre.
Meanwhile, Senator Sani has accused Governor Nasir El-Rufai of plotting to remove President Muhammadu Buhari.
